Circuit City Numbers Cry Out For A Bit Of Context

Written by Evan Schuman
June 4th, 2009

Hitwise, an online measurement firm that is usually quite reliable, issued a statement Wednesday (June 3) that CircuitCity.com’s relaunch marked a 230 percent increase from the prior week and that 84 percent of its visitors had not visited in the past 30 days.

Somehow, I wonder if the fact that the company had gone bankrupt, shut everything down and wasn’t offering anything on its Web site for months might have skewed the comparison numbers a bit. This is just another in our continuing series called “Web stats are great but they need an awful lot of context to mean anything.”
