A Little Dip, Then Back On Track for POS Systems in EMEA
Written by Fred J. AunApril 1st, 2009
POS shipments to Europe, the Middle East and Africa are likely to decline slightly in 2009 before they begin to grow again in 2010, according to a report from the IHL Group. If IHL’s prediction proves accurate, 2009 will be the second consecutive year POS shipments dropped for EMEA. The region sustained a 3 percent decline in POS shipments from 2007 to 2008, said IHL Group Founder and President Greg Buzek.
“We’re projecting that terminal sales will drop 4 percent this year, but we’re projecting a gain for 2010,” he said.”So we’re basically going to drop to 2005 levels (by the end of this year).” Even so, the POS industry for the region remains healthy, at about $3.2 billion annually, Buzek said.

I have strong reservations about the 'individual' certification and posting of that information for merchants. Can you imagine the potential employee poaching that might occur? The implications when competitors can look up how many are certified with each of their competitors?
