Home Depot Taps eBay Exec As Its New CIO
Written by Evan Schuman
September 9, 2008
Matt Carey, who had served as CTO for both eBay and Wal-Mart, became the new Home Depot CIO on Monday (Sept. 8), the $77 billion home improvement chain has confirmed.
Home Depot said that Carey is joining the company directly from his SVP/Chief Technology Officer role at eBay, a job that—according to eBay—Carey started Feb. 1, 2006.
But before that two-and-a-half-year gig at eBay, Carey had worked at Wal-Mart for 21 years, leaving the world's largest retailer in the same title that EBay offered him: SVP/Chief Technology Officer.
His Wal-Mart career began in 1985 as a programmer trainee, a Home Depot statement said. "During his tenure there, he managed the rollout of the wireless RF infrastructure, had responsibility for the company's Mainframe Large Systems and Data Warehouse and led the implementation and integration of wal-mart.com and samsclub.com," the statement said.
Carey is succeeding Bob DeRodes, who announced his resignation in April. Just this month, DeRodes was honored as one of the best paid CIOs in the industry.
Carey will report to Home Depot CEO/Chairman Frank Blake. |
